6 gallery wall layouts that always look right (with exact frame sizes)

A gallery wall looks planned when the edges line up and the spacing is even. Keep a 2 to 3 inch gap between frames and line up the top or bottom edges with the biggest frame.

1. One hero, two sides

A big frame in the middle with smaller frames stacked on both sides. Perfect above a sofa. Try Moments In Eight (1x 12x18, 1x 12x8, 4x 6x8, 2x 6x4).

2. The clean grid

Identical frames in rows and columns. Calm and modern, great for a passage. Try Elite Starter Gallery (6x 6x8).

3. Big pair with a row below

Two statement frames side by side with smaller frames lined up underneath. Ideal for couple and family photos. Try Buy 2 Get 3 Free (2x 12x18 + 3x 6x8).

4. The heritage wall

Three large frames in a row: wedding, parents, children. Try Elite Heritage Wall (3x 12x18 + 2x 6x8).

5. Hostel and friends wall

Lots of small frames for lots of memories. Try Signature Fifteen Wall (10x 6x4 + 5x 6x8).

6. Mix portrait and landscape

Group photos look best in landscape frames, single people in portrait. In every combo you can switch each frame between portrait and landscape, and the layout re-aligns automatically.

Hanging tips

  • Lay the frames on the floor first and take a photo from above.
  • Hang the centre frame first, at eye level (about 57 to 60 inches to its centre).
  • Use a pencil and a spirit level, or the level app on your phone.
